Joseph (Appachan: born on 1103 Meenam 16 (1928) spend his childhood at Upputhara and Muuzhikkadu, had his schooling at Achamma Memmorial High School Kalaketty, Kanjirappally. He was a renowned farmer, social worker, congressman, founder member of St. Philonina’s High School, Upputhara; secretary and active member of the parish council; secretary malanadu karshaka union (which played a key role in vimochana samaram that thrown out the communist party rule in Kerala). He was also credited with as one of the first photographers of High Range (now Idukki district). The photographs he has taken in 1950 – 60 period are still decorating the walls of ancient families of Idukki district. In 1963 he settled at Kanchiyar, and in 1971 again moved to Kallar near Munnar. He was also known as a cardamom merchant, jeweller and planter. He was always in the forefront of all agricultural experiments. He has given up his wealth for the education of his children and in 1978 his family moved to Edappally, in Cochin. In the year 1985 (May 12th) he passed away at Edappally).
